The Joinery

The Joinery, creating handcrafted wood furniture in the Portland area since 1982, wished to establish a downtown presence through a new showroom located at the heart of the city center. The project, a true collaboration with the talented master craftsmen and designers at The Joinery, allowed Firm 151 to bring the artistry visible in The Joinery’s furniture into its showroom design.

A tenant improvement of a large, open interior, ceilings and walls were painted white, and concrete floors and wood columns were left exposed, allowing the furniture to be the focus of the space. The showroom includes a central reception/sales area, conference room, restroom, and back office space. An array of suspended black frames houses track lighting, illuminating various staged furniture environments. Reclaimed timber beams, given a whitewash treatment, were integrated into the reception desk, as well as framing a large glass window opening into the conference room.
