Seres Restaurant
The Greco-Roman world called China “Seres,” from the Chinese word “si,” meaning “silk.” Drawing from the client’s background, the space reflects the Chinese tradition and modern sensibility that is present in the menu. The 3,500-square-foot space is organized under a folded ceiling, with handcrafted detailing showcasing materials that evoke a story. Entry walls are covered in cedar that was burnt to create striking black contrast to the natural warmth of the interiors. Cedar logs were tooled and carefully stacked to fashion distinct areas. A 60-foot-long red silk curtain, recalling the Chinese color for good luck, forms a private dining area. Opulent fixtures hanging above the solid surface bar are shrouded in mirrored cylinders. Wood‑clad walls are engraved with Chinese poems, and beer taps are laser‑etched with Chinese symbols for happiness and good fortune. A fireplace provides warmth at the entry and offers connection between the private dining area and the bar beyond.
